Where was Mikhail Baryshnikov born?
Mikhail Baryshnikov is one of most well-known dancers of our time. Even people who are otherwise unfamiliar with prominent figures in ballet will recognize this name. Baryshnikov was born on January 28, 1948 in Riga, Latvia. At that time, it was part of the USSR. Today, Latvia is independent. The dancer defected from the USSR in 1948 and found fame as both dancer and director for the American Ballet Theater and the New York City Ballet.
