Art Garfunkel was born on November 5, 1941 in Forest Hills, Queens in New York City. Some know him best for the work he did as part of the duo Simon and Garfunkel. He has also achieved great success as a solo artist with hits such as the remake of I Only Have Eyes for You and Bright Eyes.

Pop singer Kate Ryan was born on July 22, 1980 in Tessenderlo, Belgium. She was playing guitar and piano by the time she was eight years old. At sixteen she joined the pop group Melt, but quit the group for a solo career after two years. Her first solo release, Scream for More, was a hit both in Europe and, later, in the United States. Ryan is currently working on her fourth album which will be released sometime in 2008.

Where did the phrase “jump the shark” come from?

The hit show “Happy Days” aired from 1974-1984. One of the most memorable moments in the series came when the character Fonzie jumped over hungry sharks on water skis. It was from that scene that the term “jump the shark” originated. The term is used to describe television shows that have reached their peak. As the popularity of the phrase has increased, it is also applied to music, movies and books. Once a show has “jumped the shark”, its best days are behind, and it will never be the same.

Grammy award winning singer Nelly Furtado was born in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on December 2, 1978. She wasn’t born into the music business but instead used her talents to rise from daughter of a working-class family to chart topping singer. Her first single, “I’m Like a Bird”, earmed her the Grammy for the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2002.

Where was Neil Young born?

Niel Young has been a major influence on both the folk and rock music scenes since the 1960’s. He was born in Ontario, Canada on November 11, 1945. He began playing music in high school and played with the successful group Buffalo Springfield. He left the band in 1968 to go solo. His efforts were met with both critical success and huge record sales. Since the 1970’s, he has alternated between playing solo and teaming up with the band Crazy Horse. His most recent musical effort, titled Living with War and released in 2006, is a collection of songs protesting the war in Iraq.
